Why Use Oils

Oils are highly concentrated natural ingredients. If extracted in their purest form, oils contain hundreds of bioactive compounds and phytonutrients essential for skin health. Many of these bioactive components cannot be naturally synthesized in our bodies and can only be obtained from outside sources. Rosehip oil contains the essential fatty acids alpha-linolenic acid and linoleic acid that are essential to skin structure and function. Raspberry seed oil is rich in vitamin E, one of the most potent antioxidants that prevents skin damage caused by free radicals. Topical oils help to balance the skin’s natural oil production, meaning oil can actually treat oily skin. The natural fatty acid profile of oil allows for easy absorption deep into the dermal and epidermal layers of the skin.

Oils can be used as moisturizers, cleansers, makeup removers, and skin treatments. If you want to try an oil as a cleanser, look for a light oil like jojoba or sweet almond oil. Jojoba oil is not actually an “oil” but an ester, which contains a fatty acid profile similar of the human skin and actually balances the skin’s oil production. If you want to use oil as a moisturizer, choose a richer oil like passionfruit, pomegranate, or rosehip oil. If you are looking for a spot treatment, try tamanu oil for its anti-bacterial properties that specifically target the strains of bacteria that cause acne. There are many powerful oils to choose from depending on your individual needs.

When looking for an oil, always choose cold-pressed, unrefined, and sustainably sourced whenever possible. Just like with juice, cold-pressed oils are the most beneficial for our bodies. Cold-pressed oils have up to 700% higher bioactive contents than those extracted using heat. Oils that are refined are exposed to synthetic and often toxic solvents and have about 80% less antioxidants than unrefined oils. Choose an oil that is either organic or wildcrafted, so no synthetic chemicals are used in the extraction process.

Our oils are always cold pressed, unrefined, and protected in custom-coated dark glass to protect the oils against sun and heat damage.
