The method of extracting the oil from the source often uses chemical solvents and high heat, both of which damage the bioactive compounds responsible for the benefits of the oil. This conventional method is preferred because it produces the highest oil yield, cheaper and faster. Cold pressing is another method of oil extraction, which subjects the oil to very low heat and preserves the bioactive compounds in the oil. Cold pressing is more expensive as it takes longer and it produces lows yields – but it is the safest, most natural extraction method.
In fact, cold pressing is essential to maintain the oils’ efficacy, as demonstrated by a published study in the Journal of American Oil Chemists Society (Concha et al, 2006). The study showed that the content of all-trans-retinoic-acid, a key bioactive compound in rosehip oil with vital roles in skin health, increased by 700% when the oil was extracted through cold pressing in comparison to other methods (Concha et al, 2006).
That is why RAW IS EVERYTHING.™ oils are always cold pressed.
